talk to a doctor online

It’s 2 am, your child is sick, won’t stop crying, and you have no idea what to do. What are your options for medical care?

  1. Wait for your doctor’s office to open at 9 am (unless it’s the weekend, then this wouldn’t even be an option) and hope they can squeeze you in for an appointment. Of course, you may have to take some time off from work to do this.
  2. Go to the Emergency Room, stay up all night waiting, and then get billed a fortune for an issue that may not be a big deal.

Or, consider the telemedicine option…

You simply pick up your smartphone, click an app, and within minutes, you’re speaking to an Online Doctor who can diagnose, give treatment advice, and, if necessary, prescribe medication.

No high medical bills, no insurance needed, no emergency room visits, no missed work, no dressing a fussy child, no headaches or hassle.

How simple and convenient is this?

Virtual Pediatric Telemedicine

If your baby has a rash or a cold and you can’t figure out what to do, talking to a doctor online will help.  A child under 2 can have a consult with a pediatrician, however, if the child has a fever they will be referred to their pediatrician to ensure they are physically seen.  Some of the pediatric care conditions online doctors can treat include:

  • cold & flu

  • constipation

  • ear infection
  • nausea
  • pink eye
  • vomiting

Sometimes it can be very helpful and reassuring to have a late-night conversation with a board-certified doctor to let you know what’s happening with your newborn!

If you’re a working parent with children, it can become really challenging when one of them gets sick. With telemedicine, you can talk to a doctor anytime from anywhere – even from the office. Telemedicine for children can help with conditions like the flu, pink eye, rashes, tummy aches, earaches and more. Plus, you can receive advice and get answers regarding medical conditions, treatment options, and diagnoses from board-certified doctors.

Having an illness or a sick child and not knowing what it is or what to do next is scary. We can help remove the fear of not knowing what’s wrong and put you and your family on the right path towards recovery.

Medical Issues We Treat

If you’re considering the Emergency Room or Urgent Care Center for non-emergency medical issues, then you should consider using telemedicine instead. Through the TelMed Network, you’ll have access to board-certified doctors, who are available during or after normal business hours, nights, weekends, and even holidays.

Prescription Orders & Refills

When you’re out of prescription refills, there’s no need to panic. Telemedicine offers instant access to board-certified doctors all day every day. Online doctors can visit with you via phone or secure video to help diagnose and treat any non-emergency medical condition. If warranted, they can refill or write prescriptions* and send them electronically to your local pharmacy.

  • Our providers can provide a refill for up to 30 days if you are currently stable on that medication.
  • They may provide up to 3 refills in a 12 month period, and a maximum of 2 months in a row.
  • Note that The TelMed Network or MDLIVE do not guarantee a prescription will be written; that will be determined by the physician, based on your clinical presentation.
  • Patients with chronic illnesses should visit their primary care doctors or other specialists for extended care and prescriptions.
  • And please be aware that we do not prescribe controlled substances (e.g. narcotic medications, anxiolytics, stimulants), nor do we prescribe certain other medications (see Full list here).

For a current list of all controlled substances, visit

Yes. If the board-certified doctor believes medication is warranted, he or she can write a prescription for nonnarcotic medications.  This prescription will be sent electronically to your preferred pharmacy.

If for any reason your pharmacy is unable to receive e-prescriptions, a traditional prescription can be faxed.  The prescription is fully compliant and includes all required information.

Through the TelMed Network you will be able to get help with a variety of medical conditions. These common conditions range from the flu to rashes and insect bites.

Forget spending hours in a busy waiting room. Instead, enjoy access to online doctors from the comfort of your own home. A virtual doctor’s appointment can often be a faster, more affordable, and more convenient alternative to a trip to a doctor’s office, urgent care, or the emergency room.

Benefits of Talking To A Doctor Online

The biggest benefits of talking to a doctor online include:

If you have kids, you know that they don’t get sick during office hours.  Staying up all night waiting for the doctor’s office to open is frustrating.  Then you have to get them dressed and ready, pile them into a car, and wait. This is NEVER a good experience.  Through the TelMed Network, you can talk to a doctor online without having to leave the house.

Here are some other popular benefits of using telehealth…

No Guessing

Google is a great invention – except when it comes to medical. You can work yourself up in a frenzy trying to “Google and Guess” the diagnosis. Now, you can eliminate the guesswork by talking to an actual doctor online. You can see a doctor using your computer or webcam, talk to the doctor over the phone, or ask a question & get advice via secure email.

Take the guessing out of self-diagnosis and talk to an online doctor instead!

No Waiting / Saves Time

When Americans go to their physicians’ office, they spend an average of 19 minutes and 16 seconds waiting to see their clinician, according to Vitals’ annual “Physician Wait Time Report.” Patients waiting for emergency physicians or general practitioners have the longest to wait. Those wait times average 24 minutes, 41 seconds and 22 minutes, respectively.

This wait is the time it takes just to get you out of the waiting room.  As anyone who’s visited a doctor knows, you have another long wait to see the actual doctor once admitted.

Now, if you have children, you have to also take into consideration how long it takes to get them ready.  Then you have to take into account travel time there and back.

With telemedicine, your average wait time is minimal. You don’t have to wait for office hours, and you don’t have to leave the house.

Cuts Back on ER Visits

The emergency room is one of the most expensive possible places to be seen for medical care. Most ERs are designed to treat life or death emergencies like car accidents, gunshot wounds and heart attacks,” according to Anthem in their policy announcement to members. “But nearly 50 percent of patients in the U.S. have sought care in the ER for non-urgent reasons.”

Some of these unnecessary ER visits are the results of illness, abdominal pains, and other items that may have occurred outside of business hours.  Having 24/7/365 access to a telehealth service would prevent these unnecessary, non-emergency ER visits.

ER visits are expensive.  According to Consumer Health Ratings, “…consumers should expect an average cost over $1700 and a median cost of $830.  It’s higher on average for certain groups.”  They also make you wait for an average of 24 minutes plus.

By enabling doctors to communicate with patients online, telehealth can save time for both medical professionals and patients. This is especially true for injuries and illnesses requiring minimal exams.

Stay In The Comfort Of Your Own Home

3.6 Million Americans miss at least 1 medical appointment each year due to transportation barriers. These missed appointments aren’t just for people who live in rural areas. Traveling to the doctors’ office between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm can be terribly inconvenient. Plus, who wants to leave their house when they’re feeling ill?

With telemedicine, you can stay home and visit the doctor (in your jammies) without having to wait in a room with others who are equally if not even more ill than you are.

How Much Does It Cost To Speak To An Online Doctor?

Online Doctor Fees

The average cost of a trip to the doctor’s office is $146.  Plus, you have the inconvenience of office hours, travel, and wait time.

The cost of talking to a doctor online varies from provider to provider, but the average is about $79 per visit. Not only are you saving money per visit, but you have access 24/7/365 and you don’t have to leave the comfort of your own home.

Despite the lower price, spending $79 for a “Doctor on Demand” online visit can still be a lot of money.  This high cost can be a deterrent to getting help in you and your families’ time of need.  The TelMed Network doesn’t believe money should ever stand in the way between you deciding to talk to a doctor online.

With telemedicine, you can stay home and visit the doctor (in your jammies) without having to wait in a room with others who are equally if not even more ill than you are.
